• Continuing on the theme of the artist’s previous work - “Shapes and Lines” - Mia uses a spare palette of lines and curves to express a futuristic dystopian surveillance state. The overlapping layers likely represent societal constructs of identity, responsibility, and bureaucratic hinderances to freedom and privacy as they loosely encage a prominent eye that bears into the viewer. A second pupil within this eye may be interpreted as the proliferation and variety of (sometimes redundant) visual and non-visual surveillance methods employed by both state and private actors. The second pupil also emphasizes the unnaturalness of these tools of invasion and contributes to the cold and dehumanized tone of the piece.
